Amazing Katrina Photos

Amazing Katrina Photo 01
These were taken in Alabama of Katrina as it was “coming in”. Although devastating, there is a bit of beauty in the photos. These pictures were taken by Mike Hollingshead who is storm photographer. Thanks Justin for letting know who is the photographer. You can see other weather pictures such as weird clouds. Go to check it and give the comments. Thanks.

These photos were taken by Mike Hollingshead, a professional storm chaser. They’re photos of thunderstorms in the Great Plains.

I dont understand how you can say that these photos are not real. honestly i think that David just thinks that they are not real because he has been use to the common clouds we normally see and the only thing i can say is if you never seen clouds like this but there is evidence of it then it must be true

I agree with Gavin’s post - these are NOT Katrina, but simply the pictures taken over Nebraska & Kansas during 2002 & 2004, by Mike Hollingshead.
Since I’m a native Nebraskan, I can vouch for the validity of the photos - I have seen cells quite similar to these building myself & even though these are somewhat more awesome, they’re still very nerve wracking!! Been too close to some just like these too many times!

Yeah, i live in the Katrina affected area, and it doesnt look like that when a hurricane comes in, these are definitly not of katrina, or any hurricane.

How can people say that they look fake. Because they so dont, they look as real as anything. Some of them look like Alien Spaceships coming to land. lol. But still amazing photos whoever took them. Well done

I’ve been through Fredrick, Erin, Opal, Ivan, Katrina, and Dennis (as well as many other less memorable hurricanes and tropical storms).

Starting a couple of days before their arrival, these large storms are always preceded first by scattered high-level clouds, then by a blanket of high-level clouds, all moving in the same counter-clockwise direction as the system’s rotation. This rotation is evident, even in still photographs. None of these pictures indicate any sign of rotation.

I’m sure they are real - just local storms mislabeled as Katrina.

These are great photos of tornadoes. I have seen them before. They are not photos of any hurricanes though. Katrina was far bigger than these tiny storms. The front of a hurricane is many miles across, not small enough for you to see the entire storm.

I’ve lived up and down the east coast. I’ve been through hurricanes Hugo, Andrew, Fran, Floyd, and Irene. I took pictures of them all. I never saw anything that looked remotely like these pictures until I moved out here to Oklahoma. A hurricane is so large, even the small hurricanes, that the storm covers from horizon to horizon. You can not simply just look out and see it coming. The covers up with dark clouds slowly as a hurricane approaches. The outer portion of the hurricane does not have a “wall” cloud. You can however, if the eye passes directly over you, and you have a high enough vantage point (hard to get on the coast), see a 360 degree wall cloud surrounding the eye. While I was not in, or near Katrina, I can tell you there is no way these images are the result of Katrina, or any other hurricane for that matter. I can not tell you where they actually are from, the mid-west is where I would guess. You can find several of these photos disproved as Katrina photos at www.snopes.com.

      They are photoshop’d
Look at Pic’s 3 and 7, 2 twisters not touching ground and the 7′th pic the colors dont even match from the “brushed” rain effect to the clouds.

This is how they determined these images are not Katrina…

These pictures are real but they are not of an oncoming Katrina. These are supercells forming into tornados. Even the idiot with a meteorology degree should know this! These photos are not fake. Mother Nature is big and bad!

Alabama isnt in the great plains. These pictures are. Alabama is covered in trees, it doesnt look like that. Particularly the coastal regions. Also, I saw these same pictures years ago, and the description was “Kansas Storms” or some shit.
Why lie about something like that?

you’re all full of shit….you can clearly see by the direction of the sun that these pictures were taken in Africa during the monsoon season…..wake up people…..

no, these are not from katrina. I have seen a few of these shots online before that system ever developed.
however, what no one has mentioned is that it is possible for a tropical system to spin off bands of severe storms which can produce mesocyclones and tornadoes like the ones shown in the above photographs. the SPC often issues tornado watches/warnings when tropical systems come ashore. an AMS journal states that floyd spun off 18 tornadoes before making landfall. casualties from tropical cyclones are most likely to occur as a result of storm surge, flooding, or tornadoes.
just because these were not taken durring katrina, doesn’t mean that its impossible to take photos like these during tropical cyclones.

(as for brian: lol good one haha!)

Just because you’re an expert on meteors doesn’t mean you know anything about clouds.

Like Jeff said, these are pictures by Mike Hollingshead, my favorite storm photographer… go to www.extremeinstability.com for more of his beautiful pictures.

I certainly hope whoever posted these pics as Hurricane Katrina was honestly mistaken and not simply lying. I’ll assume the former, but I’ll certainly let Mike Hollingshead know about this.

These are real photos, but they are not from Hurricane Katrina, not even anything on the Gulf Coast. They’re tornadoes in the Midwest. Read more on Snopes: http://www.snopes.com/photos/natural/storm.asp

Oh haha, your not a meteorologist, and these photos are real, you just hate the fact that somebody is getting credit for something amazing that you didn’t do. Anything out of the ordinary, strange, and rare, you losers say “it is fake.” answer me this, why is it always fake? why? why is EVERY PHOTO FAKE? Unless you take it urself you say “oh it isn’t real” and “thats fake” and other shit like that so unless you have actual evidence it isn’t real other that “it looks fake” and “how is that real”, it is real. i am looking for real information why you think it isn’t real.

I lived in Pascagoula, MS during Katrina and ran on Sunday before she came in. I ran east towards Atlanta, but never got here, we had to stop in Atmore, AL at a hotel because Katrina had caught up with us. The first photo is exactly what I saw that Sunday in Atmore. It’s scary by itself, so anyone who can say that this was not a Katrina photo, well, were you actually there? As far at the other photos, I can’t vouch for them, they are amazing by themselves. Thank you for allowing me to comment on your wonderful weather photos.
